2005年5月10日に発表された第59回トニー賞のノミネート。演劇では2005年のピュリッツアー賞を受賞した『Doubt』（ダウト）が作品賞、演出賞、主演男・女優賞など、8件で最多ノミネートを獲得。昨年日本でも上演された『The
Pillowman』（ピローマン）が5件でこれに続きます。
一方のミュージカルでは、『Monty Python's Spamalot』（モンティ・パイソンのスパマロット）が主演女優賞を除く12部門で14件でノミネートされて最多となり、『Dirty
Rotten Scoundrels』（ペテン師とサギ師）、『The Light in the Piazza』（ライト・イン・ザ・ピアッツァ）が、それぞれ 11件のノミネートを受けて続いています。
また、地域劇団トニー賞（Regional Theatre Tony Award）にはミネソタ州ミネアポリスに本拠を持つ“Theatre de
la Jeune Lune”が、演劇功労特別トニー賞（Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in
the Theatre）には、 『Zoo Story』（動物園物語）、『Three Tall Women』（幸せの背くらべ）を始め、2002年にトニー賞を受賞した『The
Goat, or Who is Sylvia? 』（山羊 −シルビアってだれ？−）、そして今年のリバイバル演劇作品にもノミネートされている『Who's
Afraid of Virginia Woolf』（ヴァージニア・ウルフなんかこわくない）などで知られるアメリカの劇作家、Edward Albee（エドワード・オールビー）氏が受賞されることが決まっています。
トニー賞の発表と授賞式は、2005年6月5日午後8時から午後11時まで（日本時間6月6日午前9時〜12時）ニューヨークのラジオシティ・ミュージカルホールで行われ、その模様はＣＢＳテレビで放送されます。
